The Distiller's Note
Barrel Aged Gin is our tribute to the way gin used to be, rested in wood, shaped by time.
At McHenry, we revived the tradition in 2014 through a solera system made up of 24 hand-selected American oak barrels, first seasoned with Russell Reserve bourbon and now dedicated to our gin.
These barrels bring more than history. They carry deep, seasoned character rich with the memory of bourbon. As the gin moves gently from barrel to barrel, it picks up delicate layers of lemonade on the nose, vanilla, warm spice, oak, and just a hint of whisky soul without ever losing its gin identity.
So what exactly is a solera system? Think of it as a continuous ageing process......instead of sitting in one barrel, the gin travels, half a barrel at a time, through a series of casks. The result is a consistent, complex spirit that blends youth and maturity in every bottle.
And if you're wondering about the label? That's a nod to Bill McHenry's fascination with space and science, a fitting theme, considering each bottle contains more gin molecules than there are stars in the Milky Way. (Roughly 4.5 x 10", to be exact.)
Enjoy it straight, over ice, or mixed into a modern Old Fashioned or espresso martini. However you drink it, this is gin aged with purpose, and served with a story.
